some of them think i'm odd

so i felt like an odwalla, you know they are amazing. it was 3.25 am and i couldn't sleep and thought why not go get one at woodman's. (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a wisco based grocer open 24/7) i didn't feel like driving so i checked the weather, 13 mph winds making it 5 degrees. this meant it was good enough to bike out, just needed to wear a scarf. at 3.45 am shoved off and road 4 miles there, got my odwalla, road 4 back. something about being out on the streets when no one is out. always fun to just own the road on a bike. i love the peace and serenity you get when you can just enjoi the world as it passes by you on your bike.

i know some of my friends think i'm crazy for biking during certain parts of the day and during certain cold spells. the way i look at it, if it isn't icy or pouring rain, why not bike? most of my commuting in madison can be done on my bike and i just put a bag on my back and away i go. so to biking on dec 2nd, cheers!

post ride with my odwalla, and now off to work.

happy dec 1.

well, weds it is. time to find out how much it cost to replace all your stuff in your toiletry bag, minus your toiletry bag. toothbrush + toothpaste + shaver + shaving cream + face wash + travel bottles for shampoo + shaver blades = 35 dollhairs. note to all those thinking of leaving all your stuff at your parents house, bad move stan. traveling to vegas tomorrow, not sure what to do once i get there, but all i know is photo opportunity. so you'll see some fun shots from there for sure, once i get back and actually have a computer to edit them on. any suggestions for what to see? never been there before...

get to wake up and be ready to head to location at 6.00 am. ever stop and wonder if what you actually wanted to be when you were younger say, 12ish and where you are today in your professional life, actually match up? i know mine doesn't, i thought i was gonna stay on the farm and be a dairy farmer. someday, i'll be farmer mike again, but the job i have is a great job working in photography. it's a long way from the farm, but every now and then, i find myself back on a farm. good times.

slack lack back

well, it's been awhile since the last post. a few things have happened. one, thanksgiving and what a good thanksgiving it was. got to see my sister and her family (always fun being uncle mike) and the parents, grandparents and another brother and sister. good food, way too much of it and got to see old friends. found some great new music, still loving the thermals and frightened rabbit. i find music makes my life that much better. found out after numerous doctor visits that i have a strained muscle in my abdominal region which was diagnosed by my pt doc, not my internal med doc or my sports med doc. all i have to say is this injury is way fun, restricts running but does still allow for soccer. strange, but the human body sucks sometimes.

as for shooting, well shot some photos for my brother-in-laws band. strangely enough, i don't even know what their name is, ha. i'll find it out and post some photos in the next blog. shot my jeep, figured i would give it a go and give myself an hour to edit. hard to edit on a laptop with no mouse, but got it done. could have done better with a mouse. also got some new specs seeing as how it was getting hard for my old eyes to see street signs at night. don't worry, i didn't hit anything, but there were numerous u-turns in the past few weeks. ha. so yeah, vegas in three days. should be a good time. needing some inspiration any thoughts on what to shoot? name it and i'll see if i can shoot it.

wow, i need to shave.

biking is a disease

so took the morning off and ran some errands around town. finally could bike seeing as the wind isn't blowing at 50 mph or above. the last two days were crazy with weather. so after 2 hours biking around doing errands, i realized that the season for biking outdoors is getting shorter with every colder day that brings us closer to snow. could bike in the snow, but don't have a bike set up for it and before i do, i have two bike frames sitting in my living room waiting to be built up this winter. so my plan is to make one into a fixed gear and the other a single speed with a coaster brake. not sure what types of rims i'm gonna use for the fixie, but looking at a set of velocity deep v's or if for some reason i come into a few more hundred dollars, an aerospoke, but that is a bit pricey. as for the single speed, i'm just gonna put a new coaster hub into my existing rim from an old bike. both should be functional by spring and that will leave me with three bikes, a regular single speed, a coaster brake single speed, and a fixie. that should be enough for now or until i buy a road bike next spring. ah, this is becoming a disease. here is an awesome trailer i found for this movie. now to just find out where i can buy this thing: http://vimeo.com/14349409

other thoughts, anyone have any color ideas for a bike/wheel/rim combo? the two bikes are as follows: dark grey for one, and baby blue for the other. i like these colors:

monday monday

ever get a burst of inspiration? well i got one this afternoon. always liked the looked of ringflash work, but never really liked it straight on with the lens in the middle. so figured out a way to raise the ringflash just a tad above the camera. then took a few self-portraits thanks to a handy dandy remote. a few minutes in photoshop and walla!

music of the day: take some time and find this band "the thermals". good music. travel plans in the future include a trip out to milwaukee to shoot some engagement photos and a trip up to minneapolis for a band photo.

final thought of the day, really liking the aerospoke rims for the bike buildup this winter. possibly finding out how to put a coaster brake in the rear wheel. should be freakin awesome when done. old dark grey kent frame with bright yellow aerospokes and yellow handlebar tape.

man do i have a long face...

a headshot & insomnia: a productive mixture

hello fellow citizens of this fine fall day we are about to embark on. this image is for a buddy dusty, who was in need of a headshot for a school assignment. this assignment's mission was to make him explore a two page magazine spread about typography and was to incorporate a photo. his idea includes a write up about the music he creates and a headshot of him. well, last week during our planning session, we decided we needed to do a shoot in a shower. (he was wearing board shorts in the shower, we kept it pg rated) so, with the friendly help of sunday night insomnia, here is the final image...enjoi!

here is one more shot from the shoot.
